Francolino Reintroduction Project: Another 10 Pairs Released into the Wild

The Black Francolin reintroduction project goes ahead. After their breeding in the wild in 2024 in the Capparrina locality (Planeta company, Menfi), in January 2025 a further 10 pairs were transferred from the Istituto Sperimentale Zootecnico della Sicilia to an acclimatisation aviary placed within a suitable habitat (dwarf palm scrub).

After an acclimatisation period of a couple of weeks, the roof of the aviary was opened and the birds were released into the wild.

A feed and a water dispenser are maintained at the site ad libitum until the freed individuals are completely independent.

A hidden photo-trap records every movement day and night.
