Francolino Reintroduction in Sicily Continues: New Pairs Released in Menfi and the Madonie

Francolino Reintroduction

The project to reintroduce the Francolin in two areas of Sicily (Menfi, Planeta Estate in the Capparrina area; Madonie, Collesano, Volpignano area) continues thanks to the availability of one-year-old individuals, born in 2024 at the breeding facility of the Istituto Sperimentale Zootecnico.

Additional pairs have been released in both territories, and sightings of individuals or the detection of male calls have become more frequent.

All individuals have been ringed with ISPRA bands.

The photo of the male in an olive grove row at the Planeta Estate was taken by Marco Carapezza on July 27, 2025.
