On April 17 and 18, 2026, at the Officine Bellotti hall (via Gagini, 31 – Palermo), the Fondazione Internazionale Biodiversità del Mediterraneo will host the conference “Extinctions and Rewilding”, an event dedicated to exploring the core themes of its mission: the issue of species extinction and ecological restoration through conservation and reintroduction projects.
To make the event accessible to a wider audience, the full conference will be available via live streaming on both days.
Live streaming – April 17
The first day, starting at 3:00 PM, will be moderated by Attilio Carapezza and will feature discussions on wildlife management strategies in Sicily, species reintroduction projects, and a historical overview of vertebrate extinctions on the island, with contributions from experts in research and conservation.

The second day, starting at 9:00 AM and moderated by Francesco Petretti, will focus on the results of LIFE projects, species protection initiatives, and new perspectives on rewilding, concluding with an open discussion on the topics addressed.
The conference represents an important opportunity to explore the role of biodiversity conservation in the Mediterranean context and to gain insight into concrete projects aimed at protecting and reintroducing species.
The presentations will later be collected in a dedicated publication, including texts and images provided by the speakers, which will be published by the end of 2026.
